SABO Elektronik invests in ASM equipment
“This is the one”
Together with technology leader ASM, Sabo Elektronik GmbH is taking the leap to the next generation of placement systems while entering the realm of process integration. The mid-sized company in Schwerte, Germany, manufactures control panels as well as open-loop and closed-loop control units for building and automation technology. In the future it will do this on ASM equipment with integrated material logistics.
“We have been manufacturing our electronic modules in-house since 2002. The machines are obsolete and no longer supported by their manufacturer. Spare parts are difficult to obtain. A prolonged outage would present us with major problems,” says Marcel Sabo, one of the general managers of the family-owned business.
Consequently, his team set out to find new partners and solutions. They had already come up with a shortlist and were in the evaluation phase when an employee discovered – rather by change – a video on ASM equipment on the internet. “We asked ASM to show us what they could do for us. I immediately had a good feeling, and their overall proposal was very competitive,” remembers Marcel Sabo.
The good feeling was confirmed when the team visited ASM’s Center of Competence in Munich. Marcel Sabo: “They really went all out for us as a small company – it was downright cordial. Everyone knew what they were talking about, they could answer all our questions, and they demonstrated the solution in the CoC in a very convincing manner. You could simply feel the competence and professionalism. When we left the CoC in the afternoon, we looked at each other and knew: This is the one.”
With ASM at its side, the Sabo team is now taking a big technological leap. Besides modern E by SIPLACE placement machines, the company also wants to deploy the technology leader’s software. For example, all production-related material logistics are to be upgraded with ASM Material Manager. The old line is scheduled to be torn down and replaced with new technology in early April – with strong support and training from ASM experts.
The company wants to operate trouble-free and more efficiently already in the near future. Customers and products will also benefit. “Our development departments always designed our products in such a way that they could be manufactured on the old line. The significantly higher precision and performance of the new equipment opens the door to a world of opportunities for us. The company’s processes will improve as well. ASM’s support and the remote support connectivity accelerate the troubleshooting and minimize risks – not just in times of a pandemic. By using ASM Material Manager and ASM Setup Center, we want to create the basis for more efficient logistics processes and lower inventories. We will also be ready to meet the rising traceability requirements in our industry. We get everything perfectly integrated from ASM.”
