ASM starting new webinar series in March

10.02.2021

SMT expertise on process integration and OSC placements

Technology leader ASM is expanding its offerings of free live webinars focusing on SMT manufacturing expertise. To treat more complex technical issues with the appropriate depth and attention to detail, the company decided to combine several webinars into topic-specific series. In line with the concept of ‘mix & match’, users can put together their own individual program by specifically selecting entire series or just certain webinars. In 2021, three of these series will be offered, with each consisting of four webinars. The first series, which begins in March, will cover the challenges involved in integrating the production resources in the integrated smart factory. The second series will focus on new ways of placing OSCs with modern placement solutions. The third series will focus on process control in SMT production with the goal of achieving zero defects. Information about the webinars and how to register is available at www.asm-smt.com/en/webinars.

The Centers of Competence which technology leader ASM operates in Europe, Asia and America provide a unique way to evaluate production processes in real-life environments while gaining access to the know-how of ASM specialists and the experience gained by other electronics manufacturers. Due to the pandemic, most of the individual customer demonstrations, webinars and training seminars offered by the Centers are currently held remotely. “To handle more complex technical and process issues and discuss them with the visitors in appropriate depth and detail, we have developed our webinar series in a new ‘mix & match’ format. In thematically coordinated sequences of multiple webinars we can cover demanding topics in greater detail and make the individual webinars more interesting. While the webinars build on each other, they stand alone thematically and can be booked individually. That way, our customers benefit from personal seminar programs that are perfectly tailored to their needs and requirements, are compact in terms of time, and can be scheduled flexibly,” explains Bernhard Fritz, who heads the global network of SMT Centers of Competence at ASM.

Users can acquire extensive knowledge about the respective SMT process topic by attending a complete series of webinars or select individual webinars that cover topics of particular interest to them. To be as informative, practice-relevant, and interesting as possible, the webinars feature much more than lectures, namely talks with users, guest speakers, chats, Q&A sessions, and live video links with machines and systems, to name just a few features.

Contents and dates of the ASM webinar series

The first series to be held in March, which is titled “Seamless Integration of Production Resources in Integrated Smart Factories”, is divided into the four areas “People”, “Equipment”, “Material”, and “Process”. It will start on March 2 with a webinar on “People: How to Fully Integrate Human Resources into the Production Environment. It will be followed in intervals of a few days by webinars on “Equipment: Smart Machine-to-Machine Communication”, “Material: Optimized, Automated Material Supply from the Warehouse to the Line”, and “Process: Factory Integration to Ensure Process Control”. The series will be hosted by Haithem Jeridi, ASM’s SMT Factory Solutions Manager for topics related to the integrated smart factory.

Series 2 will focus on “OSC Placements with the Flexibility, Speed and Process Control of Modern Placement Machines”. It will start on March 16 with a webinar on “OSC and THT Processing: Solder Paste Printing and Inspection”, followed by webinars on “OSC and THT Processing: Programming and Teaching, “OSC and THT Processing: Component Feeding,” and “OSC and THT Processing: Handling and Placement”. The series will be coordinated by Christoph Oeckl, who heads ASM’s SMT Center of Competence in Munich, where among many other topics, he is responsible for the solder paste inspection, process optimization and robotics.

The third webinar series, which will begin on September 14, 2021, is titled “Target Control of Your SMT Processes to Achieve Zero DPMO”. Topics include “Materials, Product and Process Design”, “Equipment”, “Smart Processes”, and “People”. It will be hosted by SMT Solutions Manager Jérôme Rousval, ASM’s specialist for inspection technology and manufacturing process optimization. As a member of the ASM Product Marketing team, he is responsible for the automated ASM ProcessExpert optimization solution as well as for the implementation of AI across the entire SMT production line.
